The abolitionist movement encouraged what other crusade?
The abolitionist movement was only the time period before slavery was illegal, so it dates from the start of the Colonies up until the end of the Civil War. South - Pro Slavery, North - Anti Slavery. People in the north weren't particularly fond of African-Americans, but they did not like the idea of slavery. The whole Southern infrastructure was centralized around cotton, and slaves were needed to pick and process the cotton. Without slaves the south would be out millions of workers. Abraham Lincoln was one of the main crusaders that helped end slavery. When he came into office, the Civil war was just beginning. His main goal was to preserve the Union, letting the South keep their slaves if they wanted, but mainly just prevent the south from seceding. Later during the war he enacted the emancipation proclamation which freed all slaves, if the north won the war. Thats all I really know about this subject hope it helps
