(:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[3 x 3 + (2^{2} + 16 \div 8)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The equation is above :)

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Okay, so first, do you know what PEMDAS stands for? (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is the order to take on an equation :)

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Yes, that is correct. So, according to that, which do you think we should do first?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the parentheses

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Yep! :D So, go ahead and start with the area in parentheses. (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[3 X 3 + (4 + 2)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think, then 4 +2 is 6

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

That is correct! So, after that, what do you have? (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3 x 3 + 6 = 9+6 = 15 ?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

I believe it should just be 3x3+6 next.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay, so 3 x 3 + 6 = 15 ?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Where are you getting the 15 from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when i multiply 3 and 3, i get 9. then i add on the 6 so i get 15

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Oh, so the "x" between the 3's is a multiplication symbol rather than the variable "x"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yes sorry about that, it is a multiplication sign

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Haha okay

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Then it should be 9 + (4 + 2) We agreed that 4 + 2= 6, so 9 + 6= 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, got it! Thanks so much for your help and courtesy! :)

I'm happy to help however I can! *^.^* Also, feel free to tag me in any question by typing @Whitemonsterbunny17 Thanks for using \(\Large\frak\color{cyan}{OpenStudy}\)! Also, don't forget to close the question. (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. thank you again! I actually have another question, so i would be very grateful if you could help me. I will close this question and tag you in the new one!

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

\(\Large\frak\color{magenta}{Okay,~Awesome!}\) :D
