OpenStudy (gio333):

the area of a rectangle is given by the expression x^3+4x^2-11x-30. If the length of the rectangle is given by the expression x^2-x-6 find the expression that represents the width

OpenStudy (aum):

Area = Length * Width Width = Area / Length Long Polynomial Division

OpenStudy (aum):

Polynomial Long Division

OpenStudy (gio333):

im not good with polynomial long division though.

OpenStudy (aum):

Look for it in YouTube. A couple of examples and you will be an expert in no time.

OpenStudy (gio333):

could you use synthetic division instead of polynomial long division for this problem?

OpenStudy (aum):

Synthetic division only if the denominator is first degree polynomial such as (x+3) or (x-2).

OpenStudy (aum):

But if you want to do synthetic division you can factor the denominator and then do TWO synthetic divisions.

OpenStudy (gio333):

ok thanks.

OpenStudy (aum):

you are welcome.
