1 and 1/5 gal is how much more than 1 gal?
OpenStudy (mathstudent55):
Before we get there, let's look at your answer to see if it is right or wrong.
What is more, 1 gal or 1 1/5 gal?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
1 1/5 gal
OpenStudy (mathstudent55):
Good.
1 gal of water weighs 8 1/3 lb.
Since 1 1/5 gal is more than 1 gal, then 1 1/5 gal of water should weigh more than 1 gal of water, right?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
right

Now look at your answer. You said 8 1/15.
What is more 8 1/3 or 8 1/15?
Since the first 8 is the same as the other 8, all we need to compare is 1/13 and 1/15.
What is more, 1/3 or 1/15?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
8 1/3 definitely
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so 1/3 is more
OpenStudy (mathstudent55):
Correct.
Then how can more water (1 1/5 gal instead of 1 gal) weigh less (8 1/15 lb instead of 1 1/3 lb) ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I guess my answer was wrong. How do I find out the answer though?
