A stroke is caused by _____.

OpenStudy (alistairgarratt):

Strokes can be one of two types, ischaemic, which are by far the most common are the "heart attacks" of the brain, in which an artery gets blocked by a blood clo (thrombus), cutting off blood flow to the brain tissue and resulting in its death within minutes. Haemorrhagic strokes on the other hand are much less common but far more dangerous within the first hours, and result from the bursting of a brain artery, leading to bleeding onto the brain, build up of pressure and sometimes shutting off of the breathing centers due to compression of the brainstem.

OpenStudy (alistairgarratt):

Blood clot, missed the "t". Sorry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Blood Clot or if you are looking for a technical term AFib.
