Given the functions j(x) = x2 - 9 and k(x) = -x2 + 7x - 1, which operation results in a 3rd degree polynomial?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Do you have a list of choices or operations for the answer? (j+k)(x) is first degree (j*k)(x) is 4th degree (j-k)(x) is second degree (jok)(x) is fourth degree as well. (j^(-1)) is not a polynomial.

Sorry I was having issues replying. The options are: addition, sub, mult, or no operation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So there are no operations for this problem?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Sorry, no, none of addition, subtraction and multiplication will give results in 3rd degree polynomial. Hope that helps!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it does! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

OpenStudy (mathmate):

You're welcome! :)
