Help! I am confused on this problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{12}\] is between what two whole numbers? ____ and ____

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, so lets look at two square roots: one smaller and one larger, that we know the answer too; but also the closest to sqrt(12) we can get. Like, we know the square root of 9 is what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We know that 3 times 3 gives us 9. We also know that 4 times 4 gives us 16. So we are looking for what number times itself will give us 12. Right? So it has to be a number between 3 and 4!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because 12 is between 9 and 16. I would like to show you one more. \[\sqrt{27}\]is between what two whole numbers? ____ and ____ So we know that 5 times 5 is 25 (which is smaller than 27) And we know that 6 time 6 is 36 (which is larger than 27) And 27 is in between 25 and 36. So we know that sqrt(27) lies between the whole numbers 5 and 6.

I hope this helps!

Thanks Dude I got it now!
