I don't know how to solve for x in this type of polygon.. help

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Oooo it's Princess Jasmin! c:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:)

zepdrix (zepdrix):

It's a 4-sided figure, how many degrees will the interior angles add up to?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it has 4 sides to it equals 360

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when I set up an equation I keep getting weird answers that do not seem right

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Good good good. So the `sum` of all of those angles will be 360.\[\Large\rm (3x+1)+(12x+6)+(4x-3)+(10x+8)=360\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.56?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Hmm I'm not sure where you came up with that number....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then I just came up with 1.44.. :/

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Drop the brackets (Since nothing is being applied to the outside of them):\[\Large\rm \color{royalblue}{3x}+1+\color{royalblue}{12x}+6+\color{royalblue}{4x}-3+\color{royalblue}{10x}+8=360\]Combine like terms. The blue terms can be combined with one another. Then do the black with black as well.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

How many X's do you have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

29

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Good good good. \[\Large\rm \color{royalblue}{29x}+1+6-3+8=360\] How bout for the black stuff on the left side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

348/29=12

zepdrix (zepdrix):

12? Yay good job! :) Not sure where you were getting these weird 1.56 and stuff lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have no Idea lol, but thank you!
