I'd probably go with gahm8684's answer of (C). The culture of the Byzantines certainly didn't become less diverse mainly because of its links between Europe and Asia. Constantinople, in particular, was a huge melting pot of traders from three continents -- Europe, Asia, and northern Africa. When the West fell, the East essentially took up the slack and became incredibly prosperous, outlasting the Western Empire by about a thousand years.
