Which of the following is true of the synapse? Answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which of the following is true of the synapse? Answer A. Information can be relayed bidirectionally (i.e., the presynaptic neuron can sent it to the postsynaptic neuron or the postsynaptic neuron can send it to the presynaptic neuron) B. Information is converted from a chemical one into an electrical one C. Both the pre- and post-synaptic cells must be neurons D. In order to be able to relay information, the presynaptic neuron must be in physical contact with (touch) the postsynaptic neuron E. It involves the opening of voltage-gated calcium channels and calcium influx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's either C or E, can't decide. I think they are both right :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Abhisar @somy

OpenStudy (abhisar):

I think it should be C

OpenStudy (abhisar):

C is obvious.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea but Calcium also opens during this?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

are they present in muscle cells or neurons ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they are outside of the neuron, but at the synpase it lets calcium in to make the electrical message a chemical one. So calcium influx.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Give me a sec

OpenStudy (abhisar):

E will be the answer !

OpenStudy (abhisar):

At a synapse, the plasma membrane of the signal-passing neuron (the presynaptic neuron) comes into close apposition with the membrane of the target (postsynaptic) cell.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Take the case of a motor neuron, at the end it is connected with a muscle cell.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Getting my points ?

OpenStudy (abhisar):
