OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

Graph the rational function f(x)=(x^2-2x-2)/x+1. Find asymptotes if any.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What kind of methods do you have at your disposal? There's a whole section in calc I devoted to graphing curves based on derivatives. Or if you're in precalc, you can plug in values of \(x\) and see what you get for \(f(x)\).

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

I am in precalc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

graphing calculator :)

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

How would I find asymptotes with a calculator? I would also like to know how without it. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Without a calculator, finding asymptotes if fairly simple. What values of \(x\) make the function undefined? \(f(x)\) is undefined when the denominator is zero.

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

so in this case -1?
