What difficulties do you think might arise when trying to understand ideas from the past, especially when those ideas are so different from our modern thinking? Do you think primary resources show a complete picture of the period they are from? Give an example or two to illustrate your answer.
Well you gotta understand the past is the past man, i cant understand the concept that my dad was a marathon runner because i've only ever known him as round and cudldly. in the same way we cant begin to say we FULLY comprehend how ancient societies worked
PRIMARY sources are the most biased usually
well i may not know the best exemplars of bias, but Caesar wrote his own biographies about his triumphs......BIASED. Alaxander the Great had scribes record his military victories and had them blow stuff out of proportion
maybe the best example is of the battle of Thermopalie or however you spell it where they recon the Persians had 100000000 men
aspects of the truth make the misinformation harder to spot
i totally love history man
you can ask me whatever anytime cool-cool?
