Solve the Equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (igreen):

\(m = \dfrac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}\) Add \(y1\) to both sides: \(m + y_1 = \dfrac{y_2}{x_2-x_1}\) Multiply \(x_2-x_1\) to both sides: \(y_2 = (m + y_1)(x_2-x_1)\)

OpenStudy (igreen):

I think that's right..

OpenStudy (igreen):

Oh wait..I think it's: \(m = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)\) \(y2 - y1 = m(x2 - x1) \) \(y2 = y1 + m(x2 - x1)\)

OpenStudy (igreen):

I'm confused..@ganeshie8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no no @iGreen you're right :) y2 = y1 + m(x2 - x 1)

OpenStudy (igreen):

Okay, thanks @PFEH.1999

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you're welcome ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you for explaining it as of right now im looking it over @iGreen

OpenStudy (igreen):

Okay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iGreen

OpenStudy (igreen):

Okay..hold on. I'm not that good at word problems..

OpenStudy (igreen):

He travels 65 MPH It takes 1 hour and 30 minutes to get to work. Car travels at 25 miles a gallon Gas costs 3.65 a gallon

OpenStudy (igreen):

$3.65 for 25 miles.

OpenStudy (igreen):

65 miles per hour: 1 hour and 30 minutes: 1 hour = 65 miles 30 minutes is half of an hour. And half of 65 is 32.5 So he travels 97.5 miles to go to work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

14.0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

14.60 sorry

OpenStudy (igreen):

Gasoline costs $3.65 a gallon. 1 gallon = 25 miles It takes him 97.5 miles to go to work. 97.5 / 25 = 3.9. 3.9 gallons. 3.65 * 3.9 = $14.24

OpenStudy (igreen):

Lol it's around that..
