find f^-1(x)=, when f(x)={(3,5),(2,4),(1,7)}.

OpenStudy (thomas5267):

I think you just swap the Xs and Ys but I am not sure.

OpenStudy (aum):

Yes, switch the x's and the y's. For example (3,5) will become (5,3).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bu what about the f with negative 1. what does that mean?

OpenStudy (aum):

\(f^{-1}(x)\) means INVERSE of the function \(f(x)\). In \(y = f(x)\), we put in x values and find the corresponding y. With \(f^{-1}(x)\), we put in y values and find the corresponding x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so f(5)=3, f(4)=2, f(7)=1and do you just add them or leave them like that.
