A deeply religious New Hampshire man disagreed with the inscription “Live Free or Die” which appeared on the bottom of each license plate. He felt it was against his religion to give up life for the state, so he taped over the slogan. Because it was against the law to do so, the man was fined and imprisoned. He took the case to court, asking that the law be declared unconstitutional because it interfered with his right to freedom of speech. Did the court rule for or against the man?
