Should Atheists Pray? This question was given to me awhile ago as a debate topic. I have to show both sides of the argument but how would i debate this? Atheists dont pray because to them there is nothing to pray to. But also its a choice to pray or not
How could i debate how they shouldnt pray?
Debate on how Athiests think, explain how they dont believe in God. Then take it from there.
The definition of Atheism is one "who rejects the ideas of a deity". Therefore a person who is Atheist can still have a spiritual presence, but not one directly connected to a mainstream religion. Therefore, an Atheist can pray.
You also have to consider the definition of "pray" to different people.
i.e. "God, help me get this job"
I called my church pastor and asked him this question he said theyd pray to meditate or when they fear death
I would state a event happening where one might pray, like an example
That's true KIOw. I was also going to say that during traumatic events, many many people, religious or not, will talk, or 'pray', to a higher power.
but how would i debate that they shouldnt pray?
It's a strange question to debate over someone else's religious and spiritual reasoning. Hmm... I guess from one stand point, an argument could be "Since they dont believe in a direct deity, praying is useless." (not something I agree with at all). Another standpoint could be an Atheist who simply does not feel spiritual, and therefore does not want to pray.
You really cant debate that they shouldn't cause everyone has different thoughts. I would just simply say, "Athiest dont believe there is a God, so they really have no reason."
Thanks guys/gals ill go with that
