The Byzantine Empire became mega-huge. He nearly managed to rebuild the former borders of the Roman Empire when it encompassed both East and West even though he came up a bit short. Nevertheless, the Byzantine Empire reached the height of its territorial size under Justinian, but most of those gains were lost in the years after his death.
