The event that caused the end of Paleozoic era and the beginning of the Mesozoic era was the greatest extinction this earth has seen. This extinction wiped out about 95% of all marine life and 70% of land-life. This allowed the dinosaurs to step in and take their place as "kings of Earth".

The real answer is C, the extinction of dinosaurs. It was at the end of the Mesozoic era that "The Great Extinction" occurred, causing the extinction if dinosaurs, @JC300977.
