Solve the following system using the elimination method: -6x + 2y = 5 12x - 4y = -20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is there a soltion?(coordinate)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solution*

There is no solution, because these lines are parallel! Here's a graph of these two lines: The red line is -6x + 2y = 5 The blue line is 12x - 4y = -20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is it dependent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or inconsistet

@NinjaDevo

If the two lines are the same line, the system is dependent. If the two lines are parallel, the system is inconsistent.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so it inconsistent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup. :)
