I remember there being like a "Joke" group or something on OS a long time ago and I recall making a group as well, are those still around somewhere or have all the old groups been deleted?

I think it was more like a riddle group, it was pretty popular and it was sort of semi-educational haha.

Shame on them for deleting a bacon group. That's not right. I think I vaguely remember its short lived existence come to think of it lol. That was so long ago haha. I remember medals only counted for each individual group so you could be like 80 in one subject but 30 in another.

To my knowledge, the only user created group that exists now is "IIT Study Group" http://openstudy.com/study#/groups/IIT%20study%20group which was created by myself. The only reason for it to be not deleted was that I had a word with the team at that time on how it was useful for students from our country. I was also the only group moderator kept after they removed that feature. Too much misuse and difficulty to moderate those groups were the main reasons for deletion.
