OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why don't you teach me the basics, @Whitemonsterbunny17 :P

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

\(\Large\frak\color{magenta}{\heartsuit~Welcome~To~LaTeX!!!~\heartsuit}\)

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Always start a command with \(

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

And end with \)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know that already :P but hardly anything else

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Okay. Do you know sizes, fonts, and colors?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not at all

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Ooooooh. This shall be fun! :3 We'll start with the sizes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know how to do this \(\sqrt{\frac{a}{b}}\) that is all

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You don't have to teach me if you don't want

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Okay, so you don't know how to \(\normalsize\bf\color{lime}{make~text~like~this?}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nopeee

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Oooooh, well then welcome to a new world of colorful LaTeX!!! :D

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

So, the sizes. \tiny \scriptsize \small \normalsize \large \Large \LARGE \huge \Huge

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what would script size be? Like this? \(\scriptsize\text{this}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that one looks funny

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Haha, yeah, anything smaller than normalsize is pretty small xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I had to get closer to my laptop to read it

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Haha yeah, I don't suggest using those small sizes XD So, you know how to insert words, that's good. (: Next, we'll learn color. :3

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

All you have to do for color is type \color{colorname} Example: `\(\Large\frak\color{red}{Hello!}\)`

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How come yours didnt work? :o

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

I did that on purpose so that you can see the commands. (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh thanks, so if i want it to be green and large I type \(\Large\color{green}{Hello!}\)

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Yep! :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are good at explaining it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I felt dumb at first xD

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Lol, you're clearly not dumb... it is actually easy to teach you because you already know some LaTeX. :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

One of the moderators told me some of the math symbols but that was all

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Ah, see, I never use that type of LaTeX. XD I suck at math, so I never use that stuff haha.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am good at math.. but horrible at everything else

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Haha my best subject is English, but math, for me.... Terrible. XD Haha, wanna learn the fonts?? :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes please :)

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

\(\large\frak\color{magenta}{Awesome!}\) Okay, so the fonts are: \sf \tt \it \bf \rm \cal \scr \frak Note that the first few are more normal fonts, while the rest are fancier fonts.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do I put them in from or after the size? or does it not matter?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

You put them after the size. An example: `\(\Large\cal\color{red}{LaTeX~is~awesome!}\)`

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\Large\cal\color{blue}{You~are~awesome~too!!}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I like that one

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Haha thanks, but you're more awesome. ;p And yea, that's cal. :3 It's one of the most liked. You should try the rest, to see which ones you like best.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\Large\frak\color{red}{test}\) \(\Large\scr\color{orange}{test}\) \(\Large\rm\color{yellow}{test}\) \(\Large\bf\color{green}{test}\) \(\Large\it\color{blue}{test}\) \(\Large\tt\color{indigo}{test}\) \(\Large\sf\color{purple}{test}\) a lot of them look the same to me

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Some of them only change capitalized letters.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, oops... oh well I think I still like the first one the best

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Yeah, cal is usually the most liked. (: Otherwise \bf is also a nice font to use to have plain text.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If I just left the size and font blank would it use normal ?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Yeah, I believe so.

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

\(\color{red}{hello}\) ^ That has no font or size specified.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:( I keep doing it wrong apparently

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did you do yours?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Oh? Type it and post it, so I can see what is going wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\color{red}{Yay!}\) Nevermind I found the problem, silly me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I had forgotten a backslash

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Haha awesome! :p Yeah, that'll do it. Now.. Want to learn spacing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Okay, there are several ways to insert spaces. The easiest is "~". Example: `\(\Large\cal\color{magenta}{Hello!~Welcome~To~LaTeX}\)`

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\normalsize\cal\color{indigo}{Like~this!}\)

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

\(\large\frak\color{purple}{Yes!~That~looks~great!~\bigstar}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\Large\cal\color{violet}{Mine~was~smaller}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Woah, that was bright

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Haha yeah, I usually use like \large or \Large Btw, you can left click any LaTeX, click "Show math as", then "TeX commands", and you'll see what the commands used are. (:

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Fyi, using that trick doesn't work on my rainbow bunny, though c;

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That must have taken you a long time, so glad it doesn't. Thanks for the hint though :)

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Haha it did! Took quite a few hours to make xD And no problem! :3 Hmm.. The only other thing left is special characters. Wanna learn how to insert those?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Okay. To make the star: add \bigstar Example: `\(\color{red}\bigstar\)`

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\color{blue}\bigstar\Large\bf\color{blue}{like~this?}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now I can make a whole rainbow of stars

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Yep! :3 Haha do et!! That'd be awesome!! xD The heart is also the same as the star, but its command is \heartsuit Example: `\(\Large\color{red}\heartsuit\)`

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I might when I have time, I need to sleep soon because I have to get up early \(\Large\color{red}\heartsuit\) ooh its not filled in either

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Haha okay, same here. \(\large\frak\color{blueviolet}{Sleep~well!~\bigstar}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It was actually learning something for a change, \(\Huge\cal\color{blue}{Thank~You!!!}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Fun* :P

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

\(\Large\frak\color{magenta}{You're~Welcome!!~\heartsuit}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Goodnight :)

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

\(\large\frak\color{blueviolet}{Night!~\bigstar}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\Large\cal\color{purple}{I'm~back}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can still do it :P

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

\(\large\cal\color{magenta}{Haha,~Awesome!}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\Large\cal\color{blue}{Wish~I~could~do~more,~but~I~need~to~study!}\) :(

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Yeah, it takes practice. And study? What subject?? (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Math, my final is tomorrow morning

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Ohhh, haha, sorry, can't help ya there. :p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's alright :P

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Haha, well after tomorrow I'll be off of OpenStudy for a while. Just letting you know :p
