how and what settings on the camera if i want to take close up of things with bright light example a street light i wanna zoom in without it going blurry and see inside the light housing cant remember how i did it once now viewfinder perfect but when i press to take the picture i re-zooms and go out of focus

Don't know what camera you're using and what lens. If it is a DSLR, there are manual/auto focusing lenses available. If it is an autofocus camera, which I think you have, there are different settings for focusing. If you set it to point focusing, then you can focus on what you want by framing it at the centre, press halfway but do not release. With the shutter always pressed half way, reframe for the picture and then press fully to expose. Not sure if I explained well, but hope you understand.
