whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Okay, so I have recently encountered issues regarding users posting Test questions. As I was stating that test questions are against the site's terms, other users argued; "Then what is this site for? How do you know a user is posting test questions if they don't tell you?" Are there any ideas/suggestions to help distinguish a difference between Test questions and normal study questions?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

@Compassionate @Abhisar

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

@thomaster

Elsa213 (elsa213):

bunny it is actually obvious when it is a assignment or not. When it sounds like an assignment just say that its against the os rules.

Elsa213 (elsa213):

Many users don't want to type all the time so they just want answers

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Yes, I know that part. Normal assignments are permitted, I do believe. But the comparison between those questions and the questions on Quizzes, Tests, and Exams are very similar.

Elsa213 (elsa213):

I agree with u

OpenStudy (conqueror):

You can't distinguish between quizzes and assignments. That's why the CoC doesn't even really make sense.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Yes i researched a lot on it... have irritated thom a lot for this :D ! It's actually very easy to differentiate between cheater (i am considering both actual cheater and the one who just wants answer as cheaters) and learner. The moto of this site is to teach and help students in their goal of learning and not just giving out straight answers. Openstudy do not provides naive answering machines ! \(\large\sf Signs~of~Cheater\) \(\bullet\) Posts like HELP ASAP \(\bullet\) Never interacts or answers your question \(\bullet\) If interacts, provides replies like "IDK, Just temme the answer !," \(\bullet\) Prefers to medal the one who gives him/her direct answers rather than the one who explains the process and leaves on him to find out the answer.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

YOu can judge by his/her attitude easily. It is suggested to leave such students unanswered and try helping those who really wants to learn.

OpenStudy (conqueror):

Yeah, but some of those signs might include assignments, besides the ones that directly tell people to give them answers.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Even doing assignments for someone else is almost cheating !

OpenStudy (conqueror):

Exactly...

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Well, you don't have to do the assignment "for" them. Guide the user so that they find the answers themselves. That is what I try to do.

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

People don't like it, but I WILL call you out if you are giving direct answers... Even if you are explaining your answer. If the user is not learning, there is no point.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Exactly ! So if someone posts a whole assignment or a MCQ, this is generally my response "Which do you think it is? Why or why not? It would be easier to tutor you if you explained what about the question is giving you trouble."

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Yes, I ask them "Which one do you believe is correct and why?" a lot.

Elsa213 (elsa213):

Great job bunny :D

OpenStudy (abhisar):

The line in the COC "Don'y provide someone with just the answer" can be miss interpreted ! Many think that if u provide an answer with its explanation then it's okay. But no it's wrong !

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

^ Agreed.

OpenStudy (conqueror):

Someone tell me the difference between an assignment and an exam?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

That is also direct answering. Actually u need to explain things without exactly telling them the the answer !

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Leave him/her to the point where he/she can figure out the answer him/his self.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

EXAM = Live test or ongoing test Assignment= Like homework

OpenStudy (conqueror):

What if people that have exam questions just copy and paste the question of the exam into question on the post. How will you know if it's an exam or a question?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

I agree, be a teacher not a cheater. I like to think of it as the user's goal is a black belt. The more you guide them, the higher knowledge they'll grow to have. They make the connections for themselves. If someone is answering their question for them, they are less likely to know and memorize why it is the correct answer. And it takes the whole learning process away, so they are at the same level as they started on, never reaching any higher levels of success. Don't take that success from them, rather, allow them to grow, allow them to learn, to be something more. Who cares if you have the black belt and know the answer. Use that knowledge to teach them, to help them grow. Question, though... Would it be inappropriate to inquire where their question is from?

Elsa213 (elsa213):

:o Impressive

Elsa213 (elsa213):

idts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Am I the only one that finds wayyyy too much cheating on this site and people giving out answers?? And if I say something I'm attacked by 20 new users telling me to piss off...

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

No, you are not the only one... That is why I made this post. @LearningIsAwesome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I feel like I intrude because I warn people of this often. Sometimes I tag moderators and something gets done, other times I do and nothing happens. What's the best course of action?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

I run into that problem all the time... Other users actually link me to posts because they are too afraid to tell the users themselves. The best course of action, if they are not listening to you is to report them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. I also find it funny that most of these users with attitudes just joined the site and act like they own it haha

OpenStudy (conqueror):

That same thing happens to me @LearningIsAwesome You tell someone the rules of the CoC and then they start acting up.

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Yeah. Really, though. People need to realize what the site is intended for. There are too many users using this site to cheat. I am about done with it right now. I did not join to help people cheat, I joined to help students grow and achieve success.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly, let's try to put an end to it though rather than giving up, we could tag each other when we identify cheating? Like a group thing

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Sounds like a plan!

Elsa213 (elsa213):

lol XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just saying, it's an idea. Strength in numbers!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So @Whitemonsterbunny17 you're in? Anyone else?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Yeah. Kick out the cheaters, and leave the people who really want to study.

Elsa213 (elsa213):

im in i guess

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Conqueror , @Elsa213 , you guys in? lol

OpenStudy (conqueror):

Hm

OpenStudy (conqueror):

Sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right on, the OS foursome? xD lol

OpenStudy (conqueror):

XD

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

LOL XD I think we'll need more people... We'll need an army. XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay that was really stupid, I apologize for the amount of retard coming out of me today

Elsa213 (elsa213):

Lol I think I can get sum

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But really if you see clear cheating just tag each other on it. We could actually put an end to it

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Seriously... In the time we've been talking about this, I have encountered 3 posts with people giving direct answers. >.<

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly, it sucks... can we at least have a corny catch phrase? Like... AUTOBOTS, ROLL OUT!

Elsa213 (elsa213):

@Somy can u help us?

Elsa213 (elsa213):

@tanya123 @AngelWilliams16 Do u agree?

OpenStudy (conqueror):

This is really something the mods should take care of, because they don't make the code of conduct recognizable to the people that join openstudy. They should make it pop up in front of their screens as soon as they join open study. One thing we can do though is that when we see users with really low ranks we know they just joined, so you can message the terms and services and the code of conduct of open study so that they'll know how to follow the rules properly on open study. And if they don't, we should notify them to the mods so they can take drastic action.

Elsa213 (elsa213):

bunny should we get moderators to help us?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@phi @ganeshie8 you guys are mods, is this a good idea?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

It does pop onto the screen before they enter the site... They have to agree to them before they join. They just don't read them. @Conqueror

OpenStudy (conqueror):

Yeah, but they just click the checks like they've done that before on other websites.

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

^ That's the problem.

OpenStudy (somy):

- multiple choice - time - usually u can sense that they are in hurry - constant closing and opening questions @Whitemonsterbunny17 @Elsa213

OpenStudy (somy):

what we can do is this - extend explanation (meaning make it long and detailed - or just post a link to topic related to this question) you will see their reaction 'what is the answer?' or is it 'a? b? c? d?' Its pretty clear that they are guessing also it clearly shows that they have not much time - ask why do they think which choice - if you see that all they want is direct answer - just leave that question Cruel But they should learn. Its about their Future. Its not just some game.

OpenStudy (tanya123):

ςℎℯαℸ ηℴω αη∂ ϒℴμ ωίℓℓ Ъℯ ςℎℯαℸίηℊ ℸℎℯ rℯşℸ ℴƒ ϒℴμr ℓίƒℯ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Somy but I hate it when I'm typing out an explanation and I get interrupted by someone who just says "D" and the asker says THANKS and takes off!

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

OMG I am taggin you in a question. This is really bugging me. @LearningIsAwesome

OpenStudy (somy):

I know Thus guys you should understand that WE are the Source of their Cheating If we don't lead them to it - they can't do it on their own THUS reporting the asker - has no meaning person who is giving direct answers - this should be the focus 1- warn them 2- warn them 3- warn them 4- Report.

Elsa213 (elsa213):

Most of the time i give them the wrong answers. So when they fail they can probably learn a lesson

OpenStudy (somy):

this is my rule lol you can report after first warning if you don't have as much patience

OpenStudy (somy):

Yeah well thats why i always tell to cross check :3 ppl who actually care/study would surely cross check

OpenStudy (abhisar):

@Elsa213 that's morally wrong !

Elsa213 (elsa213):

:o how?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

\(\color{blue}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @Elsa213 Most of the time i give them the wrong answers. So when they fail they can probably learn a lesson \(\color{blue}{\text{End of Quote}}\)

OpenStudy (abhisar):

You should not give them wrong answers. Warn them, if they don't understand just leave them.

Elsa213 (elsa213):

O >_>

OpenStudy (abhisar):

:(

Elsa213 (elsa213):

:o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I reported cheating and got issued a warning, what?!

OpenStudy (somy):

lol thats chubby sad emoticon

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Y would u get warning for reporting cheating !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you came I got issued a warning for "arguing"

OpenStudy (somy):

@LearningIsAwesome i think its because of the fight

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the guys who were cheating reported me also.

OpenStudy (somy):

nah thats not gonna work mod was there

OpenStudy (somy):

she saw the 'argue'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How was I in the wrong though? I don't understand what am I supposed to do let it happen?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Dont argue, even don't give wrong answers. Just warn them about COC, if they don't understand report them and move on.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And just let them continue? @Abhisar No way...

OpenStudy (somy):

@LearningIsAwesome starting to argue will just cause more problems

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We all reported them and it did nothing!

OpenStudy (abhisar):

MOD's are there for next step :)

OpenStudy (somy):

not let just warn if they don't listen - ignore and report them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I tagged mods and reported, it did nothing. nothing.

OpenStudy (somy):

@LearningIsAwesome a mod did come right?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Sometimes it can happen. There are limited number of MODS. So it is not always possible for them to come and see.
