Solve the triangle. B = 72°, b = 12, c = 8 Im trying to solve this using law of sines but when I put the information into the formula I'm not getting the correct answer ):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I get 8/sin72=12/sinx which gives me 8sin72/12=sinx But when I solve for X it doesnt match my answer choices

PLEASE HELP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well you have a triangle here ill draw it out for yo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1405607949906:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah your right but because your looking for side a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why am I looking for side A? I was trying to solve for angle C with the law of sines

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im so confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

arent you looking for the sides. because the question is asking to solve the triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have to find both angles and then side a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cannot be solved C = 39.3°, A = 68.7°, a ≈ 16.5 C = 39.3°, A = 68.7°, a ≈ 11.8 C = 44.5°, A = 63.7°, a ≈ 11.8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

those are my answer choices

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first use Pythagorean theorem to find the side of A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 14.4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok \[\sin 72^{o} = 12 / x\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that will help you find side a then
