Why were Russian leaders unhappy with the Treaty of Versailles? Russia was forced to pay reparations to Germany. Russia lost territory under the terms of the treaty. They felt it did not punish Germany harshly enough. Part of Russia's border became a demilitarized zone.

The only real effect on Russia was that land east of the river Vistula,formerly part of the Russian empire,was given to the newly reconstituted Poland (the Bolsheviks weren't in any position to do anything about this).Also,they weren't invited to Join the League of Nations.
