Please help! A sporting goods store sells sets of golf clubs with steel shafts for $339. Sets of golf clubs with graphite shafts cost $549. Last month the store sold 16 sets of golf clubs for $7,314. How many sets of each type of golf club were sold? Set up and solve a system of equations to find the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets call the number of graphite clubs \(x\) so the number of steel clubs must be \(16-x\) (since the total is 16\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then you know the total of graphite clubs was \[549x\] and the total money from steel ones is \(339(16-x)\) and you also know that it has to add up to \(7314\) so you can set \[549x+339(16-x)=7134\] and solve for \(x\)

x=9 and that would be the final solution?
