Need Geometry Help!

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

Volume = base area * height

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

1. Calculate the area of the base pentagon. 2. Multiply it by height (21 in.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I get the base area?

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

|dw:1405653541634:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So do I add or multiply them?

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

No not like that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then how?

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

Try breaking them into triangles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So then I use the area of each triangle and add them together?

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok thank you! I will let you know if I have anymore questions!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That doesn't give me the answer either. I calculated the area of each triangle and added them and I got 25. then I multiplied it by 21 and got 525 and that is not a given answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@vishweshshrimali5 ??

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

How did you calculate the area ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I used the formula leg times leg divided by 2 for each of the triangles and then I added them together. Therefore 5x5/2=12.5+12.5=25

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

I am on my way home and don't have any pen/copy. So, I would let you know the solution when I reach home :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you very much!(:
