multiply both members by sqrt(8) 3*sqrt(8) / (sqrt(8)*sqrt(8) ) 3*sqrt(8) / 8 but you know that sqrt(8) = 2*sqrt(2) so, 3*(2*sqrt(2)) / 8 3*2*sqrt(2) / 4*2 3sqrt(2) / 4 this would be the exact value
