Explain why DNA replication is slightly slower in the lagging stand of DNA than the leading strand

OpenStudy (emmigrace222):

its slower because DNA replication on goes backward on the lagging strand and on the leading strand DNA replication is going forward. DNA replication can only go 3" and 5" so that is why DNA replication goes slightly slower on the lagging strand then the leading strand.

OpenStudy (emmigrace222):

hope that helps :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and DNA replication goes at the 10 bp/sec pace of DNA polymerase 1 even though DNA polymerase 3 is much faster at 1000 bp/sec
