Hiii guys its nice to be here My question is regarding the Planck's quantum theory what actually was the problem regarding blackbody radiation which lead Planck to think about energy packets ?

OpenStudy (larseighner):

Here is an article on the ultraviolet castastrophe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultraviolet_catastrophe Essentially the classical theory predicted that at higher frequency, blackbody radiation would increase without bound. The idea of infinite energy emission is intuitively absurd, but more to the point, was not in accord with experimental results. Planck did not really believe in quanta. He though he had come up with a mathematical trick that correctly predicted experimental results. But his "trick" worked, and eventually it was seen that his math really was a model and not a computational manipulation.
