Simplify i^31 1 -1 -i i

OpenStudy (davidusa):

-i

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how is i^30 -1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no im doing gradpoint

OpenStudy (davidusa):

oh becuase i times i is -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so confusing :(

OpenStudy (davidusa):

sowwy

OpenStudy (davidusa):

ill try to explain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but whether the exponents are even or odd, does that affect it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like because 30 is even.. and because 31 is odd

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you get it or not..

OpenStudy (davidusa):

yes. if the exponent is a multiple of 4, like 4 and 8 and 12, then the i becomes just 1 since i is the sqrt of -1 so -1 times -1 is 1. if the exponent is even but not multiple of 4 then the i is negative 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wtf

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im gonna look up a video on youtube to teach me it hahaha thanks for your help

OpenStudy (davidusa):

lol
