Because of the European Exploration, Europeans broke the control that Muslims and Italians had on trade routes. And then new trade routes were created.
The Muslims and Italians controlled most of the trade routes, and the Europeans wanted to gain more power from trade routes. They knew they could control many trade routes if they found a sea route to Asia.
And Italy was already in control of the major routes to the east.
