Mark launches a rocket straight up for 200 feet. At 200 feet, a bird flies into the rocket and drags it due east for 30 feet. How far is the rocket from Mark?

Lets draw a picture to solve this!
Now since this is a right triangle, you can use Pythagorean Theorem to solve that:
\(\Large a^2+b^2=c^2\)
and you can see from the drawing that a=200 and b=300
