Give fan and medal for help!!! Jason considered two similar televisions at a local electronics store. The generic version was based on the brand name and was two thirds the size of the brand name. If the generic television set is 12 inches by 24 inches, what are the dimensions of the brand name television?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

16 inches by 32 inches 9 inches by 18 inches 18 inches by 36 inches 8 inches by 16 inches

OpenStudy (anonymous):

18 inches by 36 inches.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WAIT

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THAT'S WRONG

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you explain how please...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its 8 by 16...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, 12 inches by 24 inches is two-thirds of what you're trying to find.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's going to be bigger,so it's not 8 by 16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhhhh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or 9 x 18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It actually is what I said first, lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think of it in terms of three. Which of the options have both of the lengths divisible by three?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right off the bat you can eliminate two options because 16 is not divisible by three.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It can't be the one with 8 because 8 is less than 12.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

each dimension is 3/2 times dimension of the generic TV

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

18/3 = 6 and 36/3 =12 ,right? THEN 12 x 24 is two-thirds of that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know how to explain, my apologies.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its ok so your pretty much saying my answer has to be bigger than the generic tv

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, and both also have to be divisible by three. By process of elimination you can figure it out, but there's a mathematical approach too. You could take all your choices and divide them all by three, and then multiply that by two. The one that equals 12x24 is your answer, basically. But that sounds kinda complicated.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol it does

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hope I helped ^.^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You did thx alot
