Given the algebra tiles model shown below, what is the BEST step to take next? Image : http://imgur.com/tYkJcxm A. remove the two zero pairs from the left side B. add two zero pairs to the right side C. add one 1-tile to each side D. add one –1-tile to each side

Well, we want to get x by itself. So I would say A, remove the zero pairs from the left side because x+1-1+1-1 is the same thing as x+0+0, which is the same thing as just x. Does this make sense?
Somewhat, haha. I am going to post 3 more questions down below.
How can the equation x + 2 = 5 be solved using algebra tiles? A. add two 1-tiles to each side B. remove two 1-tiles from the left side C. remove two 1-tiles from each side D. remove five 1-tiles from each side
So, again we want to get x by itself because we are looking for x = something. D wouldn't make sense, because we wouldn't get x = something. Same thing with A. And with B, our equation doesn't "balance out." Whatever we do to one side we have to do to the other, we can't just remove two 1-tiles from one side, we have to remove them from both sides. So the only answer that makes sense is C.
If the solution of an equation is x = –2, what could the original equation be? A. x + 6 = 8 B. x – 6 = 8 C. x + 8 = 6 D. x – 8 = 6
