Amino acids all share a common structure with one exception. What part of the amino acids makes each one unique?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All amino acids are made up of a carbon center, with a -COOH group, -NH2 group, and a -H attached to it. The only difference between amino acids is the fourth bond to the carbon center, which is the R-Group. The R-group can varies between the 20 different types of amino acids. Hope this helped.
