What is the median of the following data set? -1000, -999, -998, ..., -1, 0, 1, ..., 998, 999, 1000 A. 2000 B. 1 C. 0 D. 1000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

median is the middle i know that

OpenStudy (agreene):

right, so think about what the series is showing you. its from -1000 to 1000; whats the middle of that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mmm im not sure do i need to put it in the sigma notation thing

OpenStudy (agreene):

well, if it would help you understand i suppose you could, but you really dont need to. Think about this: the first number on the left is -1000 the first on the right is 1000 the 2nd on left is -999 the 2nd on the right is 999

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i get it now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you agreene

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Seriously? The median - equal number of entries in each side. 1-1000 on one side. -1 through -1000 on the other side. Pick zero (0) and move on.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its like -3, -2 ,-1, 0 , 1, 2, 3

OpenStudy (agreene):

right, it just goes out to 1000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks:)
