A box of chocolates contains, on average, 24 pieces. If the number of chocolates in each box never varies from the average by more than four, what is the least number of chocolates that will be contained in three boxes? 8 pieces 20 pieces 72 pieces 60 pieces

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The number of the chocolates does not vary by more than four. Therefore, the average of 24 chocolates ranges in the space [-4,+4],then the minimum number in each box is: 24-4=20 and the maximum is: 24+4=28. Then in three boxes the least number of chocolates is: minimum number 20 x 3 boxes = 60.
