Find X, trigonometry
you will have to use a trig ratio
what side measurements are given respect to the angle you are asked to find? hyp is clearly given but is the opp or the adj given?
The pic there is all I have for this
right the pic gives enough info can you answer my question above?
14 and 10 are the side angles, right?
but I'm asking is the opp side of the angle given or is the adjacent side given?
Wouldn't it be both?
nope well you do have enough to find another side but no both aren't given and we do not need both opp and adj measurements to be given since the hyp is given. Do you know what the hyp of a triangle is? It is the longest side of a triangle. Do you know what the opp side is? This is the side that is not touching the angle (that is not the hyp) Do you know what the adj side is? It is the side touching the angle.
Your job is to determine the measure of the angle x. The side of this triangle OPPOSITE this angle x has length 10, and the hypotenuse (the longest side) has length 14.
Review the six trig functions. Which one of those functions involves the hyp, the opp side and the angle?
Well I hope you are able to determine what side is what in the future. Mathemale gave you that answer.
I'm gonna be honest with you both, I'm not in this math, I'm in a lower math, I just need to pass this online test real quick, it doesn't mean anything toward my grades, I just need to pass it, as much as I'd love to figure all this out, I probably wont be able to because I'm not actually in this math
That's sad; you shouldn't be encountering this kind of problem until you're academically prepared for it. Do you know the definitions of the sine, cosine and tangent functins, or could you find those defs fast?
I agree mathmale I can look it up real quick
Hint #1: the cosine of angle x is defined as the adjacent side divided by the hypotenuse. For you to finish: The sine of angle x, written sin x, is defined as ... ??? The tangent of angle x, written tan x, is .... ? One of these three is the trig function you need to solve this problem.
@tgbn54 : the sine of the angle x, written as sin x, is the ratio of "opposite side" over "hypotenuse." You know that the opposite side has length 10, and that the hyp has length 14, so you can write sin x = 10/14. Your job is to obtain the approx. measure of the angle x. This is easily done with a calculator. Are you still with me?
