Im really stuck, how do you work out C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

I hope you've already done (a) and (b) ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep thats b. (x – 4)(x – 2) , A is in my book

Miracrown (miracrown):

tell us that you've done c and d as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im stuck on C i have no idea what to do

Miracrown (miracrown):

why you have no idea ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know how to find demensions

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Of course you do. You just don't know that it's finding dimensions haha

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Now the area of this rectangle in terms of x is (x-4)(x-2) as you have stated. C says that the area is 8 cubic meters. Both of these are the area of the same rectangle, so they must be...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im lost

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

The area is (x-4)(x-2) (c) says the area is 8. So since these both refer to the area of the same rectangle, they must be equal, no? (x-4)(x-2) = 8 ^this should be a good place to start :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got x^2 = 6 ... the answer has x=0 x=6 then has factors...why does that happen

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

You're not supposed to get x² = 6 But you are supposed to get x = 6 and x = 0 So which is the proper value of x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

both? or 6 because its an actual number?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Remember that x doesn't really represent anything by itself. But your dimensions are x-2 and x-4 Try replacing x with 0 and 6, and you'll see that only one value of x actually gives plausible dimensions ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 6=8...so its like 6=2,4?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

6=8? no lol If you have x = 6, then your dimensions would be 2 and 4, which is possible... If you have x = 0, then your dimensions would be -4 and -2, which is not possible, since dimensions must be positive, right :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea, Thanks :) , you helped heaps

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

No problem :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And by the way, could you possibley give me another question like that?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Give you a question? D:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea, if you possibley can, if you cant think of one its all good :)

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

It's harder to cook up questions lol let me have a think :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you :D and sure, take all the time you need :)

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

I'm sorry, for some reason, I just can't... a bit disoriented right now o.O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its okay, Thanks alot though for helping ;p
