OpenStudy (anonymous):

what was the impact of the Holocaust during World War II on Jews as well as other groups?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what were the reasons for the U.S. response to the Holocaust before, during, and after World War II ?

The first question is: I'm defining the holocaust as the overall ethnic cleansing strategy put in place by the Nazi regime during WW2. This includes any sort of killing based on political, ethnic, racial, sexual orientation or religious lines. Obviously it had a devastating affect on Jews and Gypsies as some 75% of them were wiped out. In my opinion it had an affect on the Russians as well. Russian resistance during 1941 was not stellar... alot of Soviets didn't fight or openly defected to the Nazis because they hated the Communists so much. No one knows how many for sure, but some believe hundreds of thousands of ex-red army troops joined the Axis cause. Alot of these troops chose that over death in a concentration camp... but alot of them during the early invasion (summer of 1941) simply defected. It was after survivors and refugees from Nazi-occupied Ukraine and Russia started telling their tales of horror did the Soviet troops get real inspiration. This resulted in extremely stubborn resistance by the Soviets that culminated in the largest war that has ever taken place in the history of man.

And your next question. I don't feel America had a response the the Holocaust because at first they couldn't believe it until they saw prove. But they didn't start honoring it until after ww2
