Odysseus was tied and bound to the main mast of the ship by his men. He warned his men of the Sirens and had them plug their ears with wax so they could not hear. When Odysseus heard the sirens, he begged his men to let him go, but they refused until he stopped struggling as this indicated the sirens could no longer be heard.
