I need a formula to calculate the PSI (p) applied to a sample A = L*W that is struck by a moving platen of X weight and V volcity (and/or free fall drop height). This is for a cushioning curve test series on our new testing equipment. Below are the formulas supplied. Equate an impact velocity to a free fall drop height or vice versa as follows: h 5 Vi 2/2 g ~solving for free fall drop height! (2) Vi 5=2 gh ~solving for impact velocity! where: h = free fall drop height, in. (m), Vi = measured impact velocity, in./s (m/s), and g = acceleration due to gravity, 386 in./s2(9.8 m/s2).

Just to clarify, this is for determining the correct drop height and static load to use on a Materials testing machine.
