A company did a survey among 100 customers to find their car preferences. The customers were asked about their preferences for sedans or hatchbacks. Out of the total 25 people who liked sedans, 15 liked hatchbacks also. There were 40 people who liked hatchbacks. Part A: Summarize the data by writing the values which the alphabets A to I in the table below represent. (5 points)
Like sedans Do not like sedans Total Like hatchbacks A B C Do not like hatchbacks D E F Total G H I Part B: What percentage of the total people did not like either sedans or hatchbacks? (3 points) Part C: Do the people surveyed have more dislike for sedans than hatchbacks? Justify your answer. (2 points)
@iGreen ????
Egh.. This will take a while..
ok
I haven't completely figured this all out yet, but I thought I would throw some stuff out there. Since the survey is on 100 customers, the total number of people is 100. (I=100)
This can also be written as C+F=100 and G+H=100.
Make sense so far?
kinda
Wait, sorry, I think I was looking at this wrong. Let's start over. Sorry!
ok
So, I think I need to define some of these terms. C is the total people who like hatchbacks. Let me know if you think I am looking at this right.
F is the total number of people who do not like hatchbacks.
G is the total number of people who like sedans, H is the total number of people who don't like sedans, and I is the total of all the totals.
i think thats it
Cool. Since we are told that 25 people like sedans, that is G.
And out of those 15 like hatchbacks, so A is 15. Still making sense?
kinda
Why just kinda?
i dont understand math very well/easily
Ok, no worries. Do you see that letter A represents the number of people who like sedans and hatchbacks?
yes
:) And that G is the total number of people who like sedans?
yes
Cool, so since we are told in the problem statement that a total of 25 people like sedans, we can substitute that for G.
And out of those people, 15 like hatchbacks. So that is A. Making any more sense?
@laurenchristine97?
@JoannaBlackwelder, sorry I had to get offline
No worries. Am. I making any more sense the second time around?
eh
Do you understand how the chart works?
kinda
Letter A is between like sedans and like hatchbacks, so that is the number of people who like both.
Letter B is between not like sedan and like hatchbacks, so that is the number of people who like hatchbacks but not sedans.
ok
And C is the sum of those two, or all the people who like hatchbacks.
So, were we told anything about all the people who like hatchbacks?
actually, my teacher just exempted that quiz for me, but can you help me with the ones im working on now?
