The function graphed below is a cubic function. f(a)=-f(2). Which of the following could be the value of a? (See graph in comment!) a) -2 b) -1/2 c) 0 d) 1/2 e) 2 Thank you!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is the graph!

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

what is -f(2) from looking at the graph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's -4, right?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

thats f(2), so -f(2) = -(-4) = 4 correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, and from there I get lost :(

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

what is f(-2)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that 0?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

yes f(-1/2) = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's 8... What I don't get is, when they're asking for a, what are they asking for? :(

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

they are asking for f(a) = -f(2) and we found -f(2) = 4 so we need f(a) = 4 so we need the value of a for which f(a) = 4

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

which is ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/2!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Awesome, I definitely got it now, I really appreciate it!!!

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

correct

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
