POP, POP!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would the equation look like : 40=x(2x+2)

OpenStudy (nikato):

correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I keep getting weird answers like x=-5,4 and my online teacher keeps telling me it is wrong and not explaining. I am not sure what i am doing wrong :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

40=2x^2+2x

OpenStudy (nikato):

subtract 40 on both sides. 2x^2 + 2x -40=0 now factor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=4,-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:/

OpenStudy (nikato):

correct. however, lengths of a line cant be negative, so x has to be 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh...lol. Well, thank you once again :)

OpenStudy (nikato):

yup. you're welcome again!
