Edward Jenner discovered vaccinations. He found that some of the dairymaids who worked with cows had suffered lesions on their hands, and that these dairymaids were immune to the more severe smallpox. Then, he inoculated James Phipps with material from the lesions on a dairymaids’ hands. Which best explains why Jenner decided to infect Phipps?

OpenStudy (agreene):

Well, without the explanations it's kinda hard to say; but, I would suggest you think about why we vaccinate (for specific people and not for population immunity which didn't exist then) and why Jenner might do the direct infection of Phipps.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this dates back to the history of vaccination read up :P

OpenStudy (capallan):

Maybe or probably he was trying to find a cure or vaccine to smallpox(human trials probably). This answer is very evident though.
