An incident ray travels from air to water as shown in figure 4.31. Which is the refracted ray?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's the figure btw

@dan815 @Abhisar

@shamil98 @sauravshakya @Compassionate

OpenStudy (abhisar):

I taught you this in previous question only !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so D

OpenStudy (abhisar):

First tell me, what will happen to the light ray in this case ? Will it bend towards or away from normal ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because light travels from denser to less dense medium and making the refraction away from the normal ray?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

ahh ! Your approach is correct but i think you missed some facts. Water is denser than air. So the light is moving from rarer to denser

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Now what do u think, which one should be the correct optio ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i got confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought that the water is in the top part

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know that water is denser than air

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d right?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Recall what i said in my two points in ur last question. When light travels from less dense (rarer) to denser medium, it bends towards the normal ray. Option D shows a ray which is bent away from the normal ray.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Which one do u think is bent towards normal ray ?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

|dw:1406117470011:dw|

OpenStudy (abhisar):

|dw:1406117565337:dw|

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Getting it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tnx i got the ans

OpenStudy (abhisar):

So what shall be the correct option ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Well Done !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i got d wrong because i got confused

OpenStudy (abhisar):

So everything clear now ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you bro
