In principle it's Neutron's and Proton's. But Each of those particles are composed of quarks that are in a variety of six (up, down, charm, etc...cant remember them all). The force that holds them together is called Strong Nuclear force. The Weak Nuclear force is responsible for the decay of nucleus in Radiactive elements such as Uranium and Plutonium. These two forces together with Electromagnetic Force and Gravity form the four fundamental forces in the universe. Everything can be explained using these four forces. However scientist have been hard at work to unify these four forces. Einstein tried to do this but failed. String theory is one of those theories that tries to explain all four forces in a coherent way.
