Unfortunately, it's when pro-democracy demonstrators were killed by government troops. The rest of the world calls it the Tiananmen Massacre, but inside China, it's never referenced in the same way. If you do a Google search for "tank man", you'll see a pic of one Chinese demonstrator blocking a row of tanks during the protest.
